Ministries
& Activities
These classes cover a person’s experienced relationship to
God and include study of the Bible and the traditions of the Episcopal Church.
Choir
Music is a vital part of All Saints’ liturgy. All Saints’ is extremely grateful and
fortunate to have Mrs. Ouida Thomas as their Organist and Choir Director. Her ministry not only lifts up the church’s choir, but it helps to strengthen and
focus our liturgy. If you enjoy singing
and want to be a part of musical tradition, please speak with Mrs. Thomas.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild prepares the Church for all services: caring for linens, polishing silver and
brass, ordering supplies, taking care of vestments, and preparing the altar.
Flower Donations
The beauty of flowers plays an important part in our worship
at All Saints’ Church. We adorn the
chancel with flowers for worship services as an opportunity to celebrate the
beauty of God’s creation. Flowers are
always given to the glory of God first and foremost, and then in honor of,
memory of, or thanksgiving for a person or occasion.
Elements
The Elements (wine and bread) are delivered in
the Flagon (the vessel for the wine) and Plate or Ciborium (the vessel for the
bread to the altar during the worship service.
Acolytes
Acolytes undergo a comprehensive training program in which
they are taught customs and traditions of the church, their specific duties,
responsibility and teamwork.
Lectors
Lectors are appointed by the Rector and prepared at reading
the appointed lessons during the worship service.
Intercessor/Chalice
Bearer
Intercessors are appointed by the Rector and prepared at
leading the Prayers of the People.
Chalice Bearers, (now more formally known as “Lay Eucharistic Ministers”),
are licensed by the bishop to administer the consecrated elements of the Eucharist.
Ushers
Ushers are often the first person someone sees when entering
All Saints’. They are not only greeters, but also take up the offertory
and make themselves available should someone need assistance in getting to and
from the altar.
Punch and Bunch
There are so many wonderful parishioners at All Saints’ that it can take quite a while to get to know each other well! Hosting the “Punch and Bunch” time, (our special coffee hour), is a great way to meet and get acquainted with guests and other members.
Pastoral Care
Pastoral care is the ministry of care and counseling
provided to members of the church and their families.
Centering Prayer
Centering Prayer is a method of prayer, which prepares us to receive
the gift of God's presence, traditionally called contemplative prayer. It consists
of responding to the Spirit of Christ by consenting to God’s presence and
action within. It furthers the development of contemplative prayer by quieting
our faculties to cooperate with the gift of God’s presence. Centering Prayer facilitates the movement
from more active modes of prayer — verbal, mental or affective prayer — into a
receptive prayer of resting in God. It emphasizes prayer as a personal
relationship with God. At the same time,
it is a discipline to foster and serve this relationship by a regular, daily
practice of prayer. It is Trinitarian in
its source, Christ-centered in its focus, and ecclesial in its effects; that
is, it builds communities of faith.
Daughters of the
King
“The Daughters of the King is
an Order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church, or churches in
communion with it, or churches who are in the Historic Episcopate. Members
undertake a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of
Service. By reaffirmation of the promises made at Confirmation, a Daughter
pledges herself to a life-long program of prayer, service and evangelism,
dedicated to the spread of Christ's Kingdom and the strengthening of the
spiritual life of her parish.” (From the
Daughters of the King national web-site at www.dok-national.org.)
Men’s Club
The Men’s Club meets monthly, and hosts an annual gathering
of the church.
EYC
All Saints’ EYC (Episcopal Young Churchpeople) seeks to
provide an environment where young persons can explore, experience, discuss and
debate their growing understanding of themselves, their places in a Christian
community and the person of Jesus Christ. Weekly Sunday night meetings,
retreats, and diocesan weekends are among the various ways in which this takes
place.
Birthday Cards
The ministry of sending birthday cards is a ministry that
seeks to remind every person in the church that they are known, remembered and
loved.
Saint Nicholas
Treasurer Chest
This All Saints’ ministry provides Christmas gifts to
children.
All Saints’ House
The retirement facility of All Saints’ House was begun
through the initiatives of All Saints’ Episcopal Church; All Saints’ House is
located at directly across Main Street from the Church.
Little Saints’
Episcopal Preschool
Little
Saints’ Episcopal Preschool is located at 617 South Line Street, on
the next block, just west of All Saint’s Episcopal Church, in
AA and Al-Anon
AA and Al-Anon meet weekly in the All Saints’ Parish House.
Columbarium
Christians
have, for centuries, drawn a measure of comfort from the ancient practice of
burial within the confines of the churchyard.
Throughout its life, the Church has answered this pastoral need by
providing places of burial within its grounds, in peaceful church graveyards,
in crypts, in walls or in walkways of parish churches and cathedrals. All Saints’ has joined this tradition by incorporating
a columbarium, a depository for cremated remains, into the church and
courtyard.
